Also just to answer an earlier question, both the 85PS and 105 PS 1.2 TSI engines are 8v. This is comfirmed in VWs internal publications I think its a good engine. The 85PS variant has
[news] Friday 7th June 2019 I "think" the 1.2tsi engine in these are not too bad. I believe the problems were with the older twin charged 1.2tsi engine. The newer ones are alloy block, not iron
“I’m a fan of the TSI engines, especially the 1.2. Yet its fuel economy isn’t really on a par with a diesel. It’s good, but no match for the 1.2 and 1.6-litre TDIs.
4. 1.4 TSI (EA211) engine – successor to the unsuccessful 1.4 TSI (EA111) Repeated problems with the poor durability of the tensioner and timing chain, oil burning, and even piston cracking meant that the 1.2 / 1.4 TSI engines from the EA111 family tarnished the image of Volkswagen’s gasoline engine , which were also offered by Skoda.
. This engine has a good reputation for reliability but it is a bit early to know of long term issues. Sounds nicer too and I have one of each on the drive. Sad thing is the 1.2TSi 16V engine will have a very short run as it's being replaced by a 1.0 3 cylinder TSi Lee. Edited 17 October, 2016 by logiclee
Re: Polo 1.2tsi EA211 oil grade. Thinking of switch to 5W30. Fuel consumption is much higher than before the Petronas 5W40. Got a leaking oil separator it seems so at some point going to ditch the oil sooner than expected. Now this is marked VW 504 00, but also covers VW 502 00 but is to be expected.
The 1.2 R4 TSI/TFSI engine is 24.5 kg lighter the 1.4l TSI, has good power and torque for a small city car. The main target (replacing of old 1.6l engines) was achieved using modern fuel injection system combined with a turbocharged intake.
The main objectives for the designers of the brand new three-cylinder 1.0 TSI engine were to achieve low weight, minimal internal friction and losses, and the smallest possible mounting dimensions. The result is a compact design that maximizes use of aluminium alloys, thereby allowing the designers to achieve a standard engine weight of a mere
Even so, the older 1.2 TSI unit remains a sound choice too. Blessed with a free-revving nature it performs much as a larger capacity naturally-aspirated engine would, and makes the Ibiza more than capable of high-speed motorway work. The revised suspension also plays its part, smoothing out more surface bumps but without causing excess body roll.
